5/6 Go have been learning about different forms of communication with a wide range of people. Our main focus was learning about the history of the alphabet and some basic information on Auslan, which is the Australian Sign language used by the deaf community.

This learning was a focus in our Daily 5 rotations, as well as our home learning in term 3. This allowed the students to research information that was interesting to them, as well as learning a few signs that could be used within our classroom through an online sign language dictionary. In our groups, we engaged in a range of games and activities that incorporated spelling through using the Auslan alphabet, and silent activities where students had to use their learnt signs to communicate.

In class, we put our learning together and learnt how to sing the song "Party in the USA", using Auslan. The entire class put in the upmost effort as they thoroughly enjoyed the learning that was taking place. It was great to see the class progress from having very little understanding on the topic, to having learnt many new skills that will be able to help them communicate with others in a different way.
